WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT: WHO YOU KNOW OR WHAT YOU KNOW
Since the fall out from the election, stories have emerged about employees firms have hired merely for who they know, not what they know.
Hang out in the entrepreneurial, thought leader world long enough and you will realize that many people join in not for what the “expert” knows, but for who they know.
When it comes to your brand, are you a brand filled with knowledge or connections?
Ideally we would be a brand that has both. Lots of skill that creates major connections. But that is the ideal world, not reality.
What is more important contacts or knowledge?
For me the argument is a bit of the chicken and the egg. Which one comes first?
Strong arguments can be made for both sides.
The pro knowledge says that “Knowledge is power.”
True. True statement. The introvert, school loving, side of me wants knowledge to win.
Yet, contacts mean relationships. And relationships can lead to everything including knowledge.
Knowledge is key. You need to be knowledgeable and articulate to create contacts. You must bring value to people beyond your connections.
You, sole and separate, must offer value and in that you will create connections.
